Forestry Silviculture on Chapter Property
Per the 1998 Conservation Easement on our 47 acres of forest, the Maryland Environmental Trust is counting on the Frederick Chapter #1 to manage and maintain the forest entrusted to us through the Easement. The Frederick Chapter #1 has responded through silviculture and forestry management creating a healthier forest by surveying the health of trees, and removing dead, dying, or hazardous trees that present a danger to members providing conservation program support. A perimeter road and system of trails is being established to provide easier access to the property by members and emergency personnel. In cooperation with U.S. Forest Service, The American Chestnut Foundation, and the University of Tennessee Tree Improvement Program, research is being conducted to participate in a plan for introducing blight-resistant American Chestnut trees to our forest.
